In the Northern province of Zambia you'll find the Kateshi-Isanya Estates. These coffee farms cover 2400 hectares of rich, volcanic soil. Of those 2400 hectares 1160 are protected conservation areas and buffer zones, to help heal the erosion and land degradation in the area. We work with Olam Specialty Coffee to import Kateshi-Isanya Estates to you because we love the golden raisin, lychee and tangerine taste notes of this honey processed coffee. But, we also choose to support the estates because of how they empower women. Kateshi is the first and only estate in the region to hire women for traditional male roles, like driving tractors. We feel confident in saying this coffee leads to a better life for the locals. Olam was able to sponsor a secondary school for over 1000 children on the estate and a health clinic for the area. Kateshi-Isanya Estates were grown between 1300-1650 MASL, utilizing shade nets to protect the plants from the strong, afternoon sun. The cherries are then dried on specialized raised beds for 9-14 days, being raked everyday to help prevent over fermentation.
